All Saints Day

Nick Alexander here... November 1st heralds the Feast of All Saints, according to the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar. It is a tremendous day where we all celebrate and honor the lives who have went before us, who had finished the race, and who are currently before the Great Throne of Heaven, praising God interceding for us. It is our opportunity to learn from them, learn their stories, discover new devotions, meditate upon their writings, and be inspired by their example. The song list here encompasses every single musical style: from classical, to hymns, to contemporary... there's even a great a cappella blues song in there. Three Songs from this long list are well worth highlighting. Litany of Saints as performed by Veronica Morrissey. No song selection is complete without a Litany of the Saints, where we ask individual Saints, by name, to pray for us (Rev 5:8). This particular version is one that she finds to be most prayerful. This rendition is off the album, Veronica Morrissey, Songs of Prayer.  The Grace Within as performed by Valerie Von Fange. Valerie writes:
This song is a tribute to the life of St. Augustine. Some of the lyrics are St. Augustine’s own thoughts from his book The Confessions of St. Augustine. The underlying groundwork for St. Augustine’s change of heart was his mother’s (St. Monica’s) perseverant prayers. Because he was a truth-seeker, he eventually found his answers in the Biblical writings of St. Paul and sermons of St. Ambrose. St. Augustine’s conversion story portrays sin just as it is- dirty, heavy, tainted with constant regrets, in a nutshell- painful! He is proof that a diehard sinner can become a saint by responding to God’s grace. That is why the Church has named him “Doctor of Grace”. This rendition is off the album,.Get Canonized a Saint as performed by Nick Alexander. This is a parody song of Lenny Kravitz's "Fly Away." I wrote the lyrics to demonstrate that Sainthood is not something called for a select few, but is something to which we all are called to. No matter your state in life, what you have accomplished in the past, what mistakes you have made, we are all given the task to finish the race before us.(Phil 3:13-14). This rendition is off the album, Eternal Life: The Party Album
