Funeral music suggestions

ckovackop wrote:

I plan the Funeral liturgies for the sisters of our congregation. We have a license (One License) that is printed on our music booklet but in planning I explore a variety of sources before deciding on a specific song.

I wrote back to Carla to welcome her input on funeral music planning. I am webmaster and cantor at the Church of St. Matthew and we have put together a funeral planning page with some music suggestions. It still needs more work.

I thought it might be helpful to copy over the above list of hymns to a new story here at TCS. I welcome everyone's suggestions for hymns to add to this list!

God's peace,

Covered - An Acoustic Meditation (Miller and Schletty)

MP3 Music Playlist:

The lyrics are Jack's poem "Covered" (inspired by a terrible nightmare). The guitar track was recorded by Jack Miller in a separate "moment" with his Zoom H2 digital recorder (with no intention of marrying his poem to his guitar track).

I took it upon myself to crisp up Jack's guitar track and overlay my baritone register, singing his words in a free-form manner.

I thank Jack and Roxylee for their ongoing inspiration in things related both to heaven and earth.

by:  Dan Vi Nguyen

Chorus:
In communion of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
We receive a divine mercy of Christ to be the center of our life.

To hold the church in Body of Christ that brought to life in Holy Spirit.

Verse

Experience the life of Christ in his suffering, death, resurrection and accession.
In human flesh that he know humanity in weakness and sinful.

The Baptism Song by Dennis and Bethany Buettner, illustrated by Mentol

The Baptism Song and the Baby Dedication Song are by Dennis and Bethany Buettner. The accompanying books are illustrated by Mentol.

Either version of the song can be sung at a christening or dedication ceremony, based upon beliefs. Every priest and minister who has seen and heard this loves and approves the simple message of love and hope. It is easy to sing like a lullaby.

Song search challenge: "Mother Dearest think that never here on earth it has been heard..."

One of our TCS members, tinaway-48, is looking for an old Catholic hymn, writing:

We used to sing it in May when I was in grammar school (St. Thomas More, Paradise, CA). The first verse went: "Mother Dearest think that never here on earth it has been heard that in sorrows whatsoever men to thee in vain have fled."

Can anyone help locate this song? I have had no luck so far. The song lyrics are reminiscent of the Memorare prayer:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
