Hannah was a strange girl,
Em Cmaj7 Am
prone to staring at the sky
Dm9
and saying things
Am G
that made the neighbors uncomfortable.
Em Am
Her siblings ignored her,
Amaj7 G
and her mother did, too.
Gmaj9 Dm7 Am7
In the fields every day,
Em Cmaj7 Am
she’d watch the vessel rising
Dm9
in the distance.
Am G
She heard her family laughing at it
Em Am
but she put her own raft
Amaj7 G
together secretly.
Gmaj9 Dm7 Am7
It started out slow- ly
Em Cmaj7 Am
a few drops on the shoulder
Dm9
turned a torrent.
Am G
Then all the puddles changed into streams.
Em Am
The hours grew into days,
Amaj7 G
and all the laughter stopped.
Gmaj9 Dm7 Am7
No one paid attention
Em Cmaj7 Am
when she climbed up on the raft.
Dm9
It floated off,
Am G
out of the field and then down the street,
Em Am
past all the drowning houses
Amaj7 G
and all the rising screams.
Gmaj9 Dm7 Am7
It wasn’t much longer
Em Cmaj7 Am
before waves crested hilltops
Dm9
and the land ceased.
Am G
The open sea stretched all around her.
Em Am
Dead bodies floated past.
Amaj7 G
Hannah began to weep.
Gmaj9 Dm7 Am7
Then she spotted the ship
Em Cmaj7 Am
and called for it to save her.
Dm9
A strong wind rose
Am G
to drive the raft alongside the Ark.
Em Am
A rope dropped down to her
Amaj7 G
and she started to climb.
