“Freely We Receive” is a Communion hymn inspired by the Gospel image of Christ’s compassion for the weary and the wounded (Matthew 9:36).
This meditative setting reflects the tender mercy of Jesus who sees the wounds we hide, restores the faint of heart, and gives Himself to us in the Bread of healing.
The refrain reminds us:
Freely we receive the love You freely give…
Humbly we receive the strength by which we live…
As we share in the Eucharist, we are not only comforted — we are sent. The love we receive becomes the love we carry into the world.
Perfect for Communion, Eucharistic Adoration, healing services, and themes of mercy and discipleship.
As a music director/organist, I am always looking for additional sources for new, old, and forgotten hymns and other music. This resource would also be an excellent way to broaden my view of hymnody through history, hymnals, composers, sources, etc. I look forward to new discoveries!
