To this timeless eighteenth hymn, various verses have been added.  I added two strophes that reflect the contemporary problems we face.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church proclaims that "from infancy to death human life is surrounded by their [angels'] watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God" (CCC, n. 336). Our dear guardian angels are a special gift to each one us  that  we should thank and pray for their protection and inspiration everyday

Jesus tells us in many ways that we must remain in him and persevere till the end.

St Peter tells us in the first century about the Lord's coming.  2Peter 3: 3-10 
3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days, scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Just as the Lord sent the greatest of prophets to prepare his way at his first coming, he now sends us the Queen of all prophets to bring us back to him with our whole hearts.
