You're in Control

I wrote this song after the 9/11 attacks. In scripture and throughout salvation history we see the Good Lord permitting certain obvious evils to happen for His own long-term divine salvific purposes. The temptation and fall of Adam and Eve and the rejection/crucifixion of our Divine Savior Jesus - all interactions with the mystery of evil that were permitted in the exercise of our free will and His salvific purpose. Every morning in the Office of Readings we are offered the choice of singing Psalm 67 that  tells of God's loving control of History: (You must know that God is offering his salvation to all the world (Acts 28:28).) Here is a section of Psalm 67

O God, be gracious and bless us *
and let your face shed its light upon us.
So will your ways be known upon earth *
and all nations learn your saving help.

Ant. Come, let us praise the Lord; in him is all our delight.

Let the peoples praise you, O God; *
let all the peoples praise you.

Ant. Come, let us praise the Lord; in him is all our delight.

Let the nations be glad and exult *
for you rule the world with justice.
With fairness, you rule the peoples, *
you guide the nations on earth.

There is no simple
1 to 1 cause and effect that we can point to for events like 9/11, but generally speaking, there are personal and collective traumas that God permits for our good with respect to our salvation.

Yes.  All the nations.  God is good.

Do you have a link to this on Youtube that has captioning?

It would be great to have a youtube link of this song with captioning so that my deaf friends could see the lyrics as the song progresses.

Psalm 67 by J. Kraemer and R. Schletty (sheet music)

Jeremy, I agree that it would be nice to see this song on YouTube, with words onscreen. I'd also like to see all the song lyrics posted in your Dad's blog post.

FYI, I collaborated with Jane Kraemer a few years ago to produce our own rendition of Psalm 67. Your deaf friends can view our sheet music with words here on YouTube:

And here is another rendition of the same psalm setting with me as cantor and guitarist at the Church of St. Matthew.

Thanks for the YouTube link

The transcript is a good way to follow along.

Please note that I corrected the title of your post here at TCS. You had "Your in Control". It should be "You're in Control". I see the YouTube video has the same misspelling.

Thanks for sharing.
