New Song About San Pedro Calungsod - the Philippines' Second Saint

MP3 Music Playlist:
Millions of Filipino Catholics were elated when Pope Benedict XVI canonized a teenager from the Philippines Pedro Calungsod in 2012.

Today, a new song about him is released and the composer Erwin Cabucos hopes that it will bring added spirit into the reverence and legacy of the country's second beloved saint.

Saint Pedro Calungsod was only 17 when he joined the Jesuit mission in the Ladrones Islands, Guam, in 1668.

Coming from the Vizayan islands in Central Philippines, he was endowed with the spirits of love and commitment to the doctrines of the church, the challenge of the mission and faith in Jesus Christ.

As a sacristan, he served the Jesuit community, taught the locals about the teachings of the church and lead the life of Christian devotion.

Sadlly, bad news infiltrated the place and Calungsod and his leader Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores were abducted and made to renounced faith and their roles in the church. The two were steadfast in their faith and rejected renouncements. Their bodies were tied together and plunged in the deep waters of the Pacific Ocean. They died in 1672.

The martyrs are witnesses to the Beatitude of Jesus: 'Blessed are you who are persecuted in my name, rejoice and be glad for your reward will be in heaven'.

Praying through and asking for intercessions from Saint Pedro Calungsod or San Pedro, as he is locally called in the Philippines, prove to be miraculous and life-changing.

His feast days occurs every 21 of October.

Praise God for Saint Pedro Calungsod

Erwin, I like this song! Celebrating the lives of saints is also an affirmation of everyone's call to be saintly. Well done.
