Just Suppose by Milton Delgado, Richard Schletty, André van Haren

The lyrics for this song are from a poem written by Milton Delgado. The orchestral soundbed was arranged and engraved in Steinberg Dorico by André van Haren. Vocal performance and final mixing/mastering were done in Apple Logic Pro by Richard Schletty. The orchestral version is the first song in the MP3 player above.

JUST SUPPOSE

Lyrics by Milton L Delgado ©2015
Music by Richard Schletty and André van Haren ©2026

Suppose the winds ceased to blow.
Suppose the seeds we could no longer sow.
Suppose there would never be another spring.
Suppose the song birds could no longer sing.
Suppose, just suppose.

Suppose that flowers no longer bloomed.
Suppose the light vanished from the moon.
Suppose trees and plants were plucked from the ground.
Suppose the world stopped spinning around.
Suppose, just suppose.

Suppose we had just one life to live.
Suppose none of our sins, no one could forgive.
Suppose the seas and oceans suddenly dried.
Suppose the stars and planets fell from the sky.
Suppose, just suppose.

Suppose we could no longer hope for peace.
Suppose the rainfall suddenly ceased.
Suppose the gift of love was lost.
Suppose we’re left deserted to suffer the cost.
Suppose, just suppose, just suppose, just suppose.

A simple modified version of lyrics and melody was recorded by Richard Schletty in 2015 with guitar. Listen to the second song in the MP3 player above.

And that there were no stars or moon

Just Suppose: The lyric sends a nice message

This is a lovely song and I enjoyed arranging it. The lyric sends a nice message; "suppose...", yes, suppose indeed.

The crooner version of Just Suppose

Thanks, André. You were "instrumental" in helping me bring this Classical Pop version of the song to fruition. I love the big band and theatrical songs of the 1940s, 50s and 60s – especially the ones with mellifluous vocal styling. Crooners like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, John Raitt, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Jimmie F. Rodgers (the Pop singer) and Tony Bennett.
