My wife Susan wrote a poem about one of her ancestors Nancy Ward. Susan's Father, born and raised in Amarillo Texas, passed on the story of how a Cherokee maiden entered the Johnson Family tree. The Family had a strong Christian Faith that Nancy received as her own faith in the Good Lord. I made a song out of the poem(ballad)

Heritage storytelling
You're good at folk-style storytelling through melodic voice and Travis-picked guitar.
Incidentally, I wrote a song called "Against Your Will (The Trail of Tears Story)" several years ago. A collaboration with two musicians from Germany. They created a musical soundbed and I wrote and sang the lyrics, based on a story about The Trail of Tears that I happened to chance upon in a newspaper someone left behind in a coffee shop. I did further research by talking to someone I found via the Cherokee Nation website. Note that “digetsi ilvse’i” means “driven like cattle against their will” (third-person reportive tense in the Cherokee language. Source: Ryan Mackey, www.cherokee.org)
My song is track 9 on this album: https://www.schlettysound.com/cant-let-go
You can also read about the album "Can't Let Go" here at TCS: https://www.topcatholicsongs.com/cant-let-go
Let me know what Susan thinks about my own storytelling. Thanks.
